Dear students,
I am sorry to say that the annual Freiburg exchange that was going to happen at the end of April and June cannot take place due to the current circumstances. However, we had planned to visit University College Tillburg with our Freiburg friends for a inter UC get together. Tillburg has come through with an entire day of online activities for Friday May 1st that will provide students of UCM, University College Freiburg and University College Tillgurg with an opportunity to take part in workshops and fun activities via the internet. Below is a more detailed description from the study association of UCT and here is the link to the sign-up spread sheet:

~May 1st, ALL-DIGITAL Get-together UC Freiburg, Maastricht & Tilburg~
~Buddy Time, Labour-Day-themed workshops, Dinner Dates, optional evening activities~
~LIMITED NUMBER of participants, SIGN UP before April 27th~
Originally, we planned on inviting students from University College Maastricht and University College Freiburg to Tilburg for a day of fun activities. Turns out we are not welcoming anyone in person for some time.
𝒀𝒆𝒕, 𝒘𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒖𝒑 𝒐𝒏 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓.
Together with the Universalis Academic Council and the Student Council of University College Freiburg, we adapted the original plans to suit the lockdown-life. With the help of Discord, Google Meet and other platforms, we will be able to get together online.
The set-up is pretty straight-forward. There will be a Discord server with a big chat room for announcements and guidance. In addition to that, there will be activity-specific so-called channels in which groups will get together for buddy time, workshops and dinner dates.
Due to the size of the group and the given limitations, from some people you might not see or hear more than a quick “hello, this is me”. However, we still want to provide you with the opportunity to casually chat and get to know each other. Thus, the activities include time with buddy groups and dinner dates.
The day will start with a small sort of teambuilding activity in a buddy group consisting of 6 people. Then there will be a big “hello, this is me” round with everyone and some instructions for the following workshops.
The latter are International Labour Day themed and conceived for 15 people each.
Extra Muros’ Academic Committee will offer three interesting perspectives on student activism provided by a historian, a student member of Tilburg University’s University Council and a member of a Tilburg University student activist movement from 1969.
Following their insights, the focus will shift to a common examination of a short text outlining the dynamics of politics on campus. The other half of the workshop will consist of a group discussion about the past, present and future of student activism.
For those who like it experimental, the Creative Committee prepared an artsy surprise. Using Google hangouts and aggie.io, you will go through an interactive story-telling process from a US working class perspective. The thoughts, feelings and impressions evoked through this story will then be manifested and expressed in a single collaborative artwork. It will be a dynamic process with yet undetermined result to which every participant contributes. After the event you will get access to the story as well as to the finished artwork.

We believe eating is bonding, so of course the get-together also includes getting together for dinner. In new groups of six people in total, you can exchange impressions of the day, cooking recipes and whatever else floats your boat. We furthermore encourage you to make use of the server after dinner to chat, organize discussions, game nights, jam sessions or other activities. If you have an idea and are motivated to offer an activity, please let us know and we can arrange a channel for you in advance already. However, there is no real plan for after dinner, it is all up to you if you want to make use of the server and want to keep up contact to the people you met throughout the day. All we do is offer the platform and encouragement to give it a go.
